The Cormorant

Every morning I select a stand for my day.  My stand is a quality or a value I choose to bring to my day.  One beautiful morning a few weeks ago, while running along the water in Seattle, I had the privilege of watching a cormorant.  He was occupied with the business of fetching breakfast from beneath the water’s surface. I watched this fascinating aquatic bird for a while and I noticed this:  when the cormorant paddles on top of the water, he doesn’t look around to see how he is paddling in comparison to the other paddling birds.  When he swims beneath the water, he dives with purpose and does not look around to see how he is swimming relative to the fish that glide along beneath the water’s surface.  When he takes to the air to fly alongside of the seagulls, he doesn’t look worriedly over his shoulder to see if he is “doing it right” in the eyes of the seagulls. No my friends, the cormorant just does what he does, and he is who he is, regardless of what any other creatures are up to.  I like this perspective of just “being” who I am; just “being” a miraculous creature with many fascinating attributes and fabulous intricacies.  I like “being” me, just as I am.   My stand I chose on the day I had the opportunity to run alongside the waterfront in Seattle, as well as several days since then, was the cormorant. What is your stand for the day?Do you see value in showing up in the world exactly who you are?Do you realize that exactly who you are in this very moment is a spectacular human being?Wow!Be like the cormorant my friends and be magnificent. That is who you are.

Four Leaf Clovers

I find four leaf clovers.

Frequently.

I find them alongside the trails while I am running.

I find them in the grass while walking our dogs.

I find them in the pasture where I groom our horses.

I find them while looking out the windows of my office and our home.

Some say I am lucky.

Perhaps.

What I know is so about my finding four leaf clovers is that I expect to find them.

When I see a patch of clover, I believe I will find a four leaf clover, and I do.

For me, four leaf clovers are a reminder of what I can achieve if I believe in myself with unwavering faith.  Unwavering faith is the catalyst that accompanies personal responsibility and facilitates the accomplishment of my wildest dreams.

Just as the earth is decorated with four leaf clovers, our universe is adorned with limitless possibilities that are available to us if we believe in ourselves.

What do you believe about your own abilities and gifts?

What does your belief about yourself make possible?

What happens when you take responsibility for creating your own “luck”?

Essentials

Essentials

Recently a friend e-mailed me a list of wardrobe essentials, a practical recommendation of apparel and accessories designed to ensure I am well-dressed at every occasion.  As I am somewhat challenged by fashion, I was delighted to receive the list. While I have not yet stocked my closet for success, I have given much thought to the idea of getting back to basics.  More specifically, I have assembled a cache of personal qualities for the opportunities life presents.  My list, like my life, is a glorious work in progress.   Each day it grows by one or two items.  My most up to date life essentials list includes: love, kindness, connection, laughter, courage, compassion, wonder, excitement, authenticity,  determination, presence, enthusiasm, forgiveness, gratitude, integrity, wisdom, power, radiance, honesty, tenderness, joy, simplicity, friendship and stillness. I declare my powerful intention to stock my closet with apparel and accessories that prepare me for anything.  I declare my powerful intention to stock my heart with the essentials of life. What life basics are essential to you? What powerful intentions are you willing to declare?

Snow Day

A late February ice storm is playing a percussion rhythm against my office window. School is canceled. For school-aged children, snow days are the jackpot, a secret treasure hidden within the winter months of the calendar. Waking up to a snow day is like waking up to a surprise party, an unexpected gift, a blissful time-out.

When was the last time you honored yourself with a time-out?

When did you last pause, step out of your busy day, and fall into the experience of relaxation, into the experience of simply being ?

A personal time-out is a unique creation you design to be whatever you choose. It can be decadent, luxurious, simple or sweet, as short as ten minutes, as long as a lifetime, and everything in between.

Design your time-outs to fill your heart. Take special care as you consider what a time-out looks like for you. Focus on tenderness and what it means to nurture your soul.

Step out of your schedule and into the glorious experience of reconnecting with your magnificence.

Who do you love?

February, the month of Valentines and romance has arrived.
Do you have someone you love?
Do you have someone with whom to share the sentiment of the holiday, the heart shaped greetings, the flowers, the chocolate, the candle light dinners?
Do you have a special someone in your life that brings a smile to your face, fills you with joy, and makes your heart beat faster?

If your heart is beating at all, the answer to all of the above is yes, yes, a resounding yes!
Who makes all of these wonderful experiences a reality for you?
You do.

Why not fall in love with yourself? Look in the mirror. What do you see? Do you see the miracle of life? Do you see the sparkle of your eyes or the unique beauty of your features? Do you see strength? Do you see warmth? Do you see kindness and connection in your smile? Do you recognize radiance? Do you see humor?

Look closer. Be still. Breathe in. Breathe out. Focus.
